Hose Connector

Design and Function

The primary function of a hose collar connector is to provide a reliable mechanical attachment and seal for fluid or gas transfer systems.

  • Hose Connection: One end is designed with multiple ridges or "barbs" (also referred to as the "hose tail" or "nipple") over which the flexible hose is slid.
  • System Connection: The other end typically has threads (internal or external) to connect with standard plumbing or industrial piping, valves, or machinery. Some variations use quick-connect, camlock, or push-fit mechanisms for easier assembly and disassembly.
  • Sealing Mechanism: A separate hose clamp (e.g., a worm gear, T-bolt, or ear clamp) is often used around the outside of the hose, over the barbed section, to compress the hose material onto the fitting and prevent leaks or slippage, especially under pressure.

  • Applications: They are widely used across many industries and everyday situations, including:
    • Plumbing and domestic water supply systems.
    • Agricultural and irrigation systems.
    • Automotive systems (e.g., fuel lines, coolant hoses).
    • Industrial fluid transfer for handling non-corrosive liquids and chemicals.
    • Aquariums and reverse osmosis (RO) systems.
